 Short Brown Bess Bayonet

OA 405mm Bl 285mm Sl 102mm Mrd 23mm Sm 50mm Bw 30.5mm

This is a Indian pattern bess,  the blade would originally have been 17" long.  The blade has been reduced quite well and is not crude.  It has been suggested this was for use as a tool,  however the bend towards the tip of the blade is still very bayonet like.

Blade marked with makers 'WHEELER CHAPMAN' [1], Robert Wheeler, Snow Hill, Birmingham, 1804-1830,  William Chapman, Staffordshire, c.1818.  Also marked with various touch marks and 'Crown' over '46'.

India pattern shoulders.
