Very rare pattern with acanthus scroll ends, possibly only worn for a few years between 1881 and 1882, the special pattern acorn ends being adopted by the Dress Regulations of 1883. The centre badge being of different construction to the later acorn patterns and of superior quality.

It has been suggested the 1st Battalion wore the enameled clasp, and the 2nd Battalion the non enameled clasp.
