The 5th, or Northumberland Fusiliers
1881 The Northumberland Fusiliers
Letter Crests
Officers “NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS” “Crown” over “5”
(Ryan fig.9, no example ever observed) PHOTO NEEDED
Officers “NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS” “Saint George and the Dragon” over “V”
In this example the small “V” has been removed from the base of the ground, likely by an Officer post 1881. The fact they removed the number likely explains why so few examples have been identified.
(Ryan fig.10)
“Northumberland Fusiliers” Other Ranks Buckle pre-1871
“Northumberland Fusiliers” Officers Post 1881 (Ryan fig.166)
“Northumberland Fusiliers” Officers Post 1881 variation (Ryan fig.167)
This is an extremely rare variation of the normal fig.166 clasp, it has much smaller/squashed lettering and knight with a much larger head to normal with his face visor down.
